Aloft Harlem stands on Frederick Douglass Boulevard between West 123rd and West 124th Streets in Harlem, Upper Manhattan. The surrounding neighbourhood is urban, residential, commercial and culturally significant, with restaurants, music venues, shops and historic institutions concentrated around 125th Street. The Apollo Theater is approximately 200 metres away, Morningside Park about 400 metres away and Columbia University around 800 metres away on foot. The 125 Street subway station at St Nicholas Avenue is approximately four minutes away and provides fast connections towards Midtown. Central Park is about 1.4 kilometres away on foot. A car is unnecessary for most Manhattan sightseeing, and hotel valet parking is comparatively expensive.

• Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine – approximately 1.4 kilometres walking distance: Monumental Episcopal cathedral in Morningside Heights known for its Gothic Revival architecture and extensive interior.

• Use the 125 Street station at St Nicholas Avenue for subway journeys towards Midtown and other parts of Manhattan rather than relying on taxis for every trip.
• Walk to the Apollo Theater, Morningside Park and Columbia University because all three are within approximately 800 metres of the hotel.
• Avoid bringing a car solely for Manhattan sightseeing because public transport is strong and the hotel's valet parking carries a substantial daily charge.
• For LaGuardia Airport, arrange road transport or public transport independently because the hotel does not provide an airport shuttle.
• Harlem's restaurants and entertainment venues can be busiest during evenings and weekends, so bookings can be useful for popular dining and live-music venues around 125th Street.

• The hotel's official street name is Frederick Douglass Boulevard with a double “s”; some distribution records use the incorrect spelling Frederick Douglas Boulevard.
• Marriott currently lists valet parking at $53.27 per day; valet service is for sedans only and does not include in-and-out privileges.

Spring and autumn are particularly suitable for walking through Harlem, Morningside Heights and Central Park in generally milder conditions. Summer can be hot and humid, while winter may bring freezing temperatures, snow and icy pavements. Major holidays, university events, concerts and New York's peak visitor periods can increase accommodation demand. Public transport remains useful throughout the year, although severe winter weather or major events can occasionally affect journey times.
